12 Days of Grumpy Cat Giveaway (Day 4)

So. Family. It’s awesome, right? What family traditions do you have for Christmas? (It’s ok if it’s depressing. For the longest time my family tradition was booze and Bad Santa. And it was only me. And a lot of booze. In a dark room.)

  1. I now live halfway across the country from my parents, so my family tradition is calling during the Giant Family Dinner and talking to my relatives until I’m well and thoroughly reminded of why I don’t go home for Christmas.

My family tradition is getting together on Christmas with my parents. Spoiling my pets and getting into the booze.

Some variation of “getting together with my family and the boyfriend’s”. We generally go for first day at my in-laws and second day (Netherlands holds to a two-days-of-christmas tradition) at my parents, because, well… GMIL cares about first vs second day of Christmas and my family doesn’t. My parents’ tradition is becoming that everyone brings a course to dinner. My in-laws’ is that grandma cooks dinner, and that we all agree not to buy gifts and then half the people show up with gifts anyways.

    • *snorts* Yeah, this year the Ogre and I said no gifts. Guess what? he got me gifts. *rolls eyes*

I’m thinking that the part of Dutch tradition which says 2 days of xmas has carried over to my life…I always thought it was normal, growing up, that xmas was a two day affair. Apparently, it’s not as commonplace as I thought. Many friends think I’m downright weird for meaning “the 24th AND 25th” when I say Christmas.
